Frequently Asked Questions
“Orange wine” gets its name from its distinctive amber or orange colour, which comes from how it’s made.
Unlike white wines, where the grape skins are removed before fermentation, orange wines are made by fermenting white grape varieties with their skins.
This process, called skin contact, adds colour, texture, and unique flavours to the wine, resulting in a complex and intriguing style.
Aging a wine on lees—dead yeast cells and grape particles—adds texture, depth, and complexity to the wine. Over time, the lees release compounds that enhance body and creaminess while contributing subtle flavours like brioche or nuttiness.
This process also helps preserve freshness, making the wine richer and more balanced.
Bottling without added sulfur means the wine is made with minimal intervention, preserving its natural purity and true expression of the grapes. While sulfur is often used as a preservative, wines without added sulfur reflect a more authentic and unaltered style, offering a unique and vibrant drinking experience.
