La Vigne En Rose - AOC Alsace 2020
Wine Details & Winemaking
Type: White
Alcohol: 14%
Vintage: 2020
Size: 750ml
Closure: Glass
Varieties: 85% Gewurztraminer, 15% Riesling
Structure: Dry, with balanced acidity and a light finish
Terroir: The vines are rooted in quaternary alluvial soils in the commune of Bennwihr. This terroir contributes to the wine's bright minerality and fresh character. The vineyards are 40 years old and are farmed using biodynamic methods.
Harvest: Grapes are hand-harvested with yields limited to 40 hl/ha, ensuring optimal quality.
Vinification: Fermented in stainless steel tanks with native yeasts. The wine undergoes 10 days of maceration of Gewurztraminer before aging for one year on lees. A small amount of sulfur is used before bottling to preserve freshness.
Aging: Aged on lees for 12 months to enhance complexity and texture.
Tasting Notes / Food Pairing & Cellaring
On the Nose: La Vigne en Rose 2020 offers floral aromas mingling with fresh citrus notes, offering a fresh and inviting bouquet.
On the Palate: The wine has a rich texture, with the lightness and freshness brought by the addition of Riesling and the short Gewurztraminer maceration. It avoids the heaviness often associated with Gewurztraminer, providing a refreshing and balanced finish.
Pairing & Cellaring: Best served at 10-12°C, this wine pairs excellently with dishes like salmon tartare, beef carpaccio, or a compote of apple and pear with orange blossom. It is best enjoyed in its youth but can be cellared for up to a few years for further development.

Frequently Asked Questions
Maceration is the process where grape skins are left in contact with the juice for a period of time to extract flavours, colour, and tannins.
For Gewurztraminer, a 10-day maceration helps to bring out the variety's distinctive aromatic profile, enhancing the wine's texture and complexity, while preserving its fresh and vibrant character.
Aging on lees involves leaving the wine in contact with the dead yeast cells after fermentation.
This process can add richness, complexity, and a creamy texture to the wine, as the lees release compounds that enhance flavour and mouthfeel.
It also helps to smooth out the wine, reducing sharp edges and creating a more harmonious finish.
Alluvial soils are made up of sand, gravel, and silt that have been deposited by water over time.
These soils are well-draining, which encourages deep root growth and resilience in the vines.
The minerals in alluvial soils can give the wine a fresh, bright minerality, while allowing the vines to thrive, even in challenging weather conditions.
